El Sur – First Impressions

For a long time now I was debating how to exactly present you my tasting experience. As it’s quite different from reviews, I’m gonna go ahead and describe you the menu I tried and what I loved the best. All in all, my experience at El Sur was excellent. The place is studded in Silver and draws it’s cuisine inspiration from Spain. The night began with pitcher sangrias that were loved by both me and R (My foodie partner for the night). I ordered a glass of Red to pair with the appetisers and it was an amazing pairing. Here’s the menu for the night

  • Selección de quesos Españoles | Spanish cheese selection (V)
  • Croquetas de Jamón Ibérico | Iberian Ham croquetes (P)
  • Gambas al ajillo y guindilla | Garlic and chilli prawns
  • Ceviche de lubina con cítricos y guacamole | Seabass ceviche with citrus and guacamole
  • Ensalada de judías verdes, algas, sésamo y calamar | Kenyan beans salad with seaweeds, sesame and calamari
  • Arroz negro meloso de El Sur con calamar y sepia | El Sur black rice with calamari and scallop

I tried everything except El Sur Black Rice with Calamari and Scallop and Iberian Pork Sirloin. The food was exceptionally prepared and well dressed, however, my standout favourites were Iberian Ham Croquetes, Garlic Chilli Prawns, Seabass Ceviche and the Chocolate textures with black sesame ice cream, which made it to one of my favourite desserts in the whole of Dubai. Why? Because of the unusual flavour pairing. It’s similar to the bittersweet combination of Coffee and Chocolate with a tad bit more attitude and flair. So if you go there, do try it. Enjoy the photo-story and let me know in the comments below if you have liked El Sur so far.
